So Why is Choosing The Right Coach Important?

Finding the right coach might not always seem trouble free, but you must make every effort to get it right. It’s easy to get put off and give up, but when you find the right one, you will know. Mutual trust is a huge factor; feel 100% confident with whoever you choose. The more open and honest that you can be with your coach, the more they can focus ‘you’ on what your goals really are and how you can achieve them.

Here are 10 questions that you can use to ask a coach before you work with them:

1. What is their background?

2. What made them want to become a coach?

3. How long have they been practicing?

4. What experience do they have?

5. What are their credentials?

6. What is their specialist field of coaching?

7. What ongoing learning or personal growth are they doing?

8. What will the structure look like, how often and for how long will they see you?

9. How much do they charge?

10. What payment options do they accept?

Here are 10 qualities that you should look for in a coach:

1. Trustworthy & respectful

2. Easy to talk to

3. An active listener

4. Excellent & clear communicator

5. Observant, can connect with people easily

6. An ability to share skills, knowledge and expertise in a way that you will understand

7. Motivational & Curious

8. Will challenge you and hold you to account

9. Goal orientated

10. Always focused on you and your results

Here are some questions to ask yourself before signing up:

1. Does it feel right?

2. Do you have something in common?

3. Do they understand you and you them?

4. Do you believe that they will be able to help you?

5. Can you commit 100% to working with them?

I hope that this will prove to be a helpful guide for you to use when choosing your coach. If you are seeing someone now and it doesn’t feel right, then you can always talk to other coaches and consider changing. However, I do recommend that you stick with one person as much as possible; after all, there is usually a reason why we pick the people we do.

Use the questions above to help you make the right choice at the start.

You need to be committed to your commitment!
